Hi. Welcome to my blog. I have been a home inspector in the Abilene, Texas and Brownwood, Texas area since 2002. I love the job that I do, and I love the people I meet. I enjoy helping both the first-time home buyer as well as seasoned home buyers in their home purchases.

One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is getting to meet new people, visiting with my clients and explaining to them what I found during their home inspection. I also enjoy teaching them about the home and about how the systems within it function together.
During the time that I have been inspecting homes, I have learned a lot, and I still learn new things daily. I love learning. I am a very curious person and will often research a topic for several days until I understand it much more than just on the surface. I will learn the nuts and bolts about how something works, and how it does what it does. I learn some of the theory behind it. I guess the engineer in me makes me want to understand these details.
I also love teaching and sharing my knowledge. I enjoy sharing experiences that I have had as a home inspector. I also enjoy writing – something I learned to do well in college. Due to all these reasons, I have decided to create this blog.
Many of the topics about which I will write are things that I already understand well, while others are about things that I have researched and learned more about. I am going to include topics that will be useful to three different groups of people: homeowners and homebuyers; real estate agents; and home inspectors.
A little about me –
I grew up in Hereford, Texas, a small town in the Texas panhandle that had many times more cattle than it had people. On most days, people 30 and 40 miles away could smell Hereford. In Hereford, we just liked to say that “it’s the smell of money.”
Several years after graduating from Hereford High School, I received a degree in chemical engineering from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. I am a proud Red Raider.
After college, I spent five years as an officer on two different United States Navy submarines. The USS Florida ballistic missile submarine based out of Washington state is where I spent the majority of my time while in the Navy.
After leaving the Navy, I went to work for a large manufacturing facility in Brownwood, Texas as a Senior Process Engineer. After almost nine years there, I was laid off. Not wanting to leave this area for another engineering job, I looked for and found a new profession – inspecting homes. I have been doing this ever since 2002, and it has treated me well.
In 2018, I was appointed as one of six home inspectors in Texas to be a member of the Texas Real Estate Commission’s Inspector Advisory Committee. It has been a privilege to serve on this committee whose job is to protect consumers by helping to write rules and educational materials to regulate the home inspection industry in Texas, and to help to educate home inspectors throughout the state. It has been a time-consuming yet rewarding experience so far, and I look forward to continuing to serve on this important committee.
So again, welcome to my blog. I hope you enjoy it, and most of all, I hope it is helpful to you. If there are any topics that you would like for me to write about, please leave me a comment.
